Cincinnati is a southern Ohio city situated on the banks of the Ohio River. With a population of almost 300,000 people, Cincinnati is the 3rd most populous city in the state of Ohio. Cincinnati is situated in Hamilton County and currently serves as its county seat.
Cincinnati was established after a party of 26 settlers from New Jersey and Pennsylvania arrived in the area where Cincinnati is located in December, 1788. The settlement was originally named Losantiville but was renamed Cincinnati in 1790 by Arthur St. Clair, the first Governor of the Northwest Territory of Ohio. Cincinnati became known as the Queen City as it experienced significant growth in its population. Due to the city’s popularity and a strong economy, Cincinnati began earning the name Queen City and the Queen of the West by its citizens and the nickname quickly spread.
